First and most basic step is to buy and install the best anti-virus programs. Remember that one of the strategies of the thief for stealing your online identity is through certain viruses.

Second, secure servers with the ability to be transmitted over your web. Keep well informed about the company that you are dealing business with particularly when you start to give your online information to them.

A process called web spoofing carries out online identity theft. Web spoofing reproduces exactly the  domain name of a site controlled by the identity thief . In doing this, it can manipulate all forms of transaction that goes through a certain website.

There are three essential elements on how identity thief can do such manipulation online. He / she has the exclusive right to operate all transactions on the site.

  1. A domain name which is the main identity of the site. How easily can someone get a domain name ? Usually, domain names can be purchased online from several sources for a fee. A domain name consists of characters such as letters, numbers and dash which stands for the name of the site. 
  2. A content for the purpose of publishing a site. The most important factor to consider here is the HTML and streaming media. 
  3. A web hosting to finalize the plan. Through a wen host, the thief will not only claim the site, but also serve as the directors of the company and employees.

Online identity theft is a major threat to the owners of legitimate web sites. Just imagine, all profits that supposed to go to their business can be stolen instantly. 

Potential customers who will be subscribing to their sites can also be fooled with the thieves because it  reproduce exactly the same site as the original site.

It is a trouble knowing that apart from the irritation of viruses that attacked your computer before, there is another problem arising in the web world.

It’s identity theft. Identity theft is considered the fast-growing crime today. It has destroyed several forms of personal transactions already.

How does this happen? What are the effects of identity theft? How can you prevent identity theft?

In the United States, identity theft is not something new, many offices are already immediate action to solve the problem but it is quite difficult.

The greatest worry though is that identity theft has already reached the world with their website deception. It’s nothing different to common identity theft cases ; it happens online through your computer system.

However, even if a firewall is essential,  you also need antivirus software and antispyware software.

Here are some tips to remember to secure your computer with firewall software:

  • Windows XP SP2 or higher and Windows Vista have a built-in firewall and enabled by default.
  • If you use a computer at home, the most effective and important first step you can take to help protect your computer is turn on a firewall.
  • If you have more than one computer connected at home, or if you have a small office network, it is important to protect all computers. You must have a hardware firewall (a router) to protect your network, but you must also use a software firewall on each computer to help prevent the spread of a virus in your network if one computer is infected.
